What Wundoria is for

What is Wundoria, in one sentence?

A children's app for ages 3–10 that uses eight gentle story worlds to send families outside — every adventure the screen starts is finished in the real world, together.

What problem is it trying to solve?

Childhood has moved indoors, onto screens engineered to keep children on them. Wundoria is the opposite machine: stories, characters and missions built so that the app gets put down. We measure our success by the time your family spends outdoors, not the time you spend with us.

What's actually underneath the stories?

Each world is built on a published story poem, and each maps to one of the social-emotional foundations schools teach — self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making — carried by story, art, music and time outdoors.

It is not therapy and it is not homework. It's childhood, gently structured — and to a child, it's simply a lovely story with an adventure at the end.

Who makes Wundoria?

A small UK team at Wundoria. The eight story poems came first — the app, the art, the music and the narration grew up around them. You can meet the makers on the home page.

The lines we won't cross

How we decide what to build

Why are there no scores, streaks or notifications?

Because every one of those mechanics works by making a child anxious to return, and we refuse to profit from that. Nothing in Wundoria counts down, expires or pings. Miss a week and the worlds are simply there, unchanged and patient. Wonder is the only pull we will ever use — it's promise number two of the eight we publish.

What does "calm by design" mean in practice?

Soft voices, gentle music, nothing flashing, nothing shouting. When something goes wrong — no internet, a photo that didn't take — the app fails quietly and offers a gentle way forward, never a red error at a child. Rewards are sparkles and keepsakes for things actually done outdoors, not points for tapping.

If not ads or data, how do you make money?

Honest, one-off prices. World one is free for every family, forever. The rest of the worlds are owned outright for less than a cinema ticket — the pricing is on the home page — and every purchase sits behind a parent gate a child can't pass. The classroom side is free for teachers, always. Sponsorship exists only here on the grown-up website, never inside the app.

Who holds you to all of this?

You do. The Wundoria promise is published for exactly that reason, and it ends with the commitment that matters most: if we ever need to change any of it, we tell you first — plainly, publicly, and before it happens.

No jargon, promise

The technical bits, in plain English

Do we need to download an app?

No. Wundoria runs in the web browser on any modern phone, tablet or computer — a link or a teacher's QR mission card opens it straight away. Nothing to install, nothing to update, no app store hunt. Proper App Store and Google Play apps are planned; they'll be the same Wundoria with the same promises.

Does it work offline, or on poor signal?

The heart of it does, by design. Missions happen offline by nature — the app goes in a pocket and the adventure happens outside. If a mission is finished without signal, it's saved on your device and the (nameless) tick reaches the teacher's board next time you're connected. Photos never sync anywhere, online or off.

What data do you actually hold, and where?

About your child: a first name and an age band, held on your device to greet them and size the activities — our servers only ever see the age band. About you: an email address, if you sign in or join the waitlist. That's the list.

Our servers are in the United Kingdom. Photos, drawings and voice recordings stay on your device — they are never uploaded, never analysed, never seen by us.

How do accounts work if there are no passwords?

Children never have accounts and never sign in — there is simply nothing to leak. Grown-ups sign in with a 6-digit code sent to their email: nothing to remember, nothing to reuse, nothing for anyone to steal.

How does the school link stay anonymous?

A child joins their class as a number — "pupil 07" — and that's all our servers ever know. The teacher's board shows the number, a tick and how much the mission was enjoyed. The register connecting numbers to names stays in the teacher's hands, on paper, off our systems entirely. A data breach can't reveal what was never collected.

Is there any tracking or ad-tech inside the app?

None. No advertising kits, no third-party trackers, no behavioural profiling of children — those aren't settings we turned off, they were never built in. The app talks to our own content library and our own UK database, and that's the whole conversation.

How seriously do you take children's data law?

It's the architecture, not an afterthought. Wundoria was designed to UK GDPR and the ICO Children's Code from the first sketch, on one principle: the safest data is data we never collect. Every grown-up action — purchases, settings, the camera, the class link — sits behind a parent gate, and we maintain a full data protection impact assessment as the app grows.

The road ahead

Where Wundoria is going

What's coming next?

The eight worlds are built, illustrated and narrated — so the near future is about doorways: our first fifty founding families walking every world, pilot classrooms running the mission-card loop, and native App Store and Google Play apps to sit alongside the browser version.

Will the eight worlds keep growing?

Gently, yes. The stories stay the stories — but the library of activities and missions inside each world keeps growing, so a world your family loves always has another reason to head back outside.

And beyond the eight?

The eight worlds are Wundoria's introduction. From this base we want to grow worlds for every part of learning, every topic children wonder about, and — in time — every language and country. However far that goes, three lines never move: no advertising in the app, no data about children, free for teachers always.

Will the pricing stay honest?

Yes, and here's the shape of it: world one free forever, the worlds owned outright once you buy them — whatever your family owns, it keeps — and every purchase behind the parent gate. No surprise costs, no expiring access, nothing a child can buy alone.

How can we help?

Four lovely ways: claim a founding family place and walk the worlds first, join the teacher waitlist for a pilot classroom, sponsor a patch of the million pixel meadow, or simply join the waitlist below and tell one family who'd love this.
